The Burlington Volunteer Fire Department takes great pride in properly educating the members of our community about fire prevention and fire safety. During the month of October every year a week is dedicated to the fire service and public education related to fire prevention and fire safety. During this week the fire department members provide presentations along with hands on displays to many day care, schools, and other educational facilities within the town of Burlington.
The fire department offers residential and commercial walk throughs of buildings and properties to help property owners and residents spot and fix potential fire and other hazards. A fire/life safety inspection is not used to enforce fire codes and may be scheduled, based on fire department schedules and availability, by contacting the fire department in person or by telephone.
Important Fire Safety Tips:
- replace the batteries in your smoke detectors every 6 months.
- have an exit plan and meeting place for your family in case of fire, and practice it regularly.
- Stop, Drop (cover your face), and Roll!
- educate small children in 911 use, home address and other important emergency information.
- it is always a good idea to have a fire extinguisher ready and available.
